THREE READINGS FOR FATHER'S DAY

Guide, superhero, friend... here are three readings to celebrate dads!

First time on a bike with dad

"Don't let go" Jeane Willis, Tony Ross I found this book by chance in one of those "charity shops" in Plymouth and bought it without even reading the synopsis.

It's the story of a father who teaches his little girl Sophie to ride a bike.

It is a "bittersweet" dialogue between the parent and the daughter and it becomes a metaphor for life; with the support of her father, Sophie improves more and more until one day she manages to dart away alone, drawing a tear from the father who realizes how much his daughter has grown.

" Wherever you go, there are slippery slopes

And ups and downs and bumps.

There will always be difficult paths to take

And giant steps and humps ."

How much do you love me?

The question that all children have asked their parents at least once: How much do you love me?

In "Guess how much I love you" by Sam Mc Bratney Nutbrown Hare and his dad try to quantify their affection for each other in a very tender exchange. The meaning is simple but profound the love is incalculable or perhaps we could say "I love you to the moon and back."

My dad is ...

Playful, friendly, cheerful, strong… what are some ways to describe a dad?

My Dad by Anthony Browne is a joyful book that exudes happiness; a child describes his dad as an extraordinary man, capable of doing anything: he is strong as a gorilla, cheerful as a hippo and brave as a lion. Through lively illustrations and a simple but expressive text, the book celebrates a child's love and admiration for his father, highlighting his tender and protective side.
